GOLDSIM System uses the Monte Carlo method for an analysis of input data. The method is used for modelling of complex real systems and related risk assessment. The system is flexible, based on graphic simulation of probability and has specialized modules supporting the modelling of mass transport. This makes it a perfect tool for building a model of 'total system', describing interactions and relations between the factors affecting all environmental hazards, including maritime and inland waterway transport.
In the research on risks arising from ship and offshore rigs operations, the Centre uses the system for the determination of probability density function, especially in reference to rare events in the sea and inland transport, by using the Monte Carlo method. The system allows to carry out analyses concerning port and fleet operations, and on this basis, introduce legal regulations aimed, among others, at risk reduction. The system also permits to simulate future events useful in the inference based on recorded historical events.
